The Bangalore Medical College was established in 1955 by the Mysore Education Society. It is affiliated with the reputed Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences. BMCRI was ranked as the 17th best medical college in India by India Today in 2017.
There are 5 multi-specialty hospitals attached to BMCRI, namely Victoria Hospital, Bowring and Lady Curzon Hospital, Vanivilas Women and Children Hospital, Vinto Eye Hospital and SDS Tuberculosis Sanatorium. These are all very reputed hospitals in Bangalore, Victoria Hospital being the second largest hospital in India. They in total have a bed count of 3500 beds and treat approximately half the population of Bangalore.
The work to upgrade the Institute to AIIMS level started in 2007, and the work has been going on in the institute as well as the hospitals. They were also awarded the autonomous status by the Government of Karnataka in 2006.


COURSES:
There are 250 MBBS seats in BMCRI. They also offer Postgraduate, Super Specialty Programs, Fellowship Programs, Nursing Courses, Diploma and Paramedical Courses in a wide variety of disciplines. They provide every single medical course that can be offered in India, from Physiology, Anatomy, Cosmic Dermatology, Plastic Surgery, Surgical Gastroenterology, Nursing, as well as diplomas in Sanitary Health Inspection, Medical Lab Technology, X-ray tech, etc.


AMENITIES:
The institute is affiliated with five of the largest hospitals in the city, which provide the hands-on experience that a medical student needs. The campus is a sprawling 200 acres. It includes a well-stocked library as well as a digital library, seminar hall, hostels, food court, gym, volleyball and basketball courts, etc.
They have a Tele-medicine Unit and a Clinical Skills Centre that trains students in Microsurgery Techniques. The Victoria Hospital houses a 24-hour laboratory with equipment for Pathology, Microbiology and Biochemistry Labs. The Centenary building also houses a nuclear medicine research center.

ADMISSIONS:
Undergraduate admissions for 250 seats are made on the basis of NEET-UG. 15% quota is for other state students, and there is 85% state quota. They take admissions to PG courses through NEET-PG. Admission to the rest of the courses is done by direct application to the institute.


STUDENT WELFARE:
The students have a rich college experience in BMCRI. They have various fests throughout the year, one being Cobalt Skies, which is an inter-collegiate fest with events ranging from quizzing to band competitions to dance. They also hold a medical fest called Panacea. Samara is the sports fest that they hold each year.
They have established an anti-ragging and anti-gender discrimination cell to help students with daily issues that they face based on these social issues and to take strict action against offenders.


PLACEMENT:
There are no real placements as it is a medical college, but students get to do an intense 1 year resident internship in one of the five affiliated hospitals. The stipend is around 20K INR per month. There is no shortage of jobs after graduating from BMCRI, being that it is one of the most prestigious medical colleges in India.
