Bharathiyar University was established in 1982 in Coimbatore by the Government of Tamil Nadu. The Post Graduate Centre of the University of Madras became the core of Bharathiyar University. It was named after the poet Subramania Bharathi, and it aims to follow in on his ideology of educating students to in all skills of life to contribute to an equitable and secular society.
The University mostly offers Postgraduate courses like M.Sc. in Mathematics, Chemistry, Statistics, Physics, Medical Physics, Zoology, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Information Technology, and Data Analytics. They offer a PG Diploma in Herbal Technology and MA in Tamil, Linguistics, English, Economics, Career Guidance and Masters in journalism and Mass Communication also. The offer MBA courses and UG-B.Voc. Business Process Service and Data Analysis, as well as Multimedia and Animation.
Admission to these courses is based on the marks obtained by the applicant in the entrance examination held in the campus premises only, for the postgraduate courses. Spot admission is made on a first come, first serve basis.
The application forms can be obtained by post or can be downloaded online after an admission fee of 400 INR (or 200 INR for reserved category students) is paid through a demand draft in the name of “Registrar, Bharathiyar University payable at Coimbatore” and a self-addressed stamp of 60 INR.
MBA admissions are done through Government College of Technology counseling based on TANCET marks. Even MCA is done through the same procedure based on TANCET Marks. The lateral entries are also made based on either TANCET or Bharathiyar University marks.
The results for the Bharathiyar University Entrance Exam tests have all been released. They can be checked from the official website by putting in your registration number, whereas entrance examinations for some subjects have just been completed and results are not out, whereas some have just put the registration forms out.
Examinations are conducted by the University internally, whose results are also out on the official website, course, and discipline wise. They can be checked by punching in their registration number. The minimum required marks for passing UG or Diploma in any discipline is 35%. The pass percentage for Post Graduate or Post Graduate Diploma is 50%. The examinations are conducted twice a year, once in November or December and once in April or May.
Students can apply for revaluation of their results. For that, they need to submit an application requesting for the same within seven days of the release of the results. The application form is available on the official website. There is a fee that is payable for this, around 350 INR to 650 INR, depending upon which course and year of study you are in. There is also the provision for an Improvement exam. In case the student is unhappy with the result, he/she can give an improvement exam for one or more theory papers within one year of the initial examination. The fee for each improvement paper is 500 INR.
