Humanities deal with the study aspects of human society and culture. Unlike natural sciences, humanities use methods that are mostly speculative based on historical elements and do not much use on empirical evidence. Humanities are the fields that deal with the human element of society. Sciences, engineering, etc. deal with the development of technologies and improving lives through breakthroughs in the engineering. Humanities on the other hand deal with the human aspect that is very important to society. Although human elements cannot always be categorized with scientific theories, history has shown that humans have gone through a lot of stuff and history always repeats itself in time. So, humanities use this to their advantage. They deal with historical evidence that is backed up by a lot of historical events. Thus, humanities require people with a completely different mindset than that of science or engineering students.
There are a lot of fields in humanities. The major ones are Anthropology, Archaeology, Classics, History, Linguistics and languages, Law and politics, Literature, Philosophy, Religion, Performing arts, Visual arts. Humanities are crucial to any field and humanists are the people keeping all the essential human elements of a society in check. Especially in a country like India where there is a lot of diversity, humanities are crucial. Needless to say, there aren’t as many colleges for humanities as there are for sciences. This is due to the fact that the number of opportunities in humanities subjects isn’t as many as there are in other fields. Regardless of this, there are many high level and quality Humanities colleges in India. They offer courses of varying degrees and types.

Law seems to be the most popular of humanities in India. There are lots of law schools in India that create many law professionals. The most popular of these colleges is National Law school of India university according to the Indian government census. Politics is also a very popular subject in India and the best colleges for politics are Hindu college, Kirori Mal college, etc. There are loads of colleges in India that do a splendid job in teaching humanities. Some of the most famously known are:

  1. Lady Shri Ram College (LSR) for Women, New Delhi
  2. Loyola College, Chennai
  3. St. Xavier’s College, Mumbai
  4. Madras Christian College, Chennai
  5. Christ University, Bangalore
  6. Kirori Mal College, Delhi
  7. Delhi College of Arts & Commerce, Delhi
  8. Hindu College, New Delhi
Apart from the above mentioned, there are a lot of other colleges in India that offer top-notch education in humanities. Although not all fields have the same opportunities, humanities are the jobs that are taken up only by passion in India as all the mainstream is on science and engineering. There seems to be no decrease in the number of humanities students every year in India though. Although the rise in number is not as high as other fields, it is a good indication that a lot of youngsters are opting out of the mainstream and are trying to find their passion. Humanities do offer a lot of opportunities contrary to the popular belief in India. One must grab them as they come by. It is important to choose the proper field and college as they play a crucial role in a student’s career.
